Allow highest grade for late work instead of points off

My current late work policy is 1 day no penalty, 2 days, highest grade of 75, 3 days highest grade of 50. Is there a way to make this work on Canvas? Specifically I'm thinking of auto-graded assignments like quizzes.

It is not ideal, but here is a possible solution.

Let's say the due date you tell students is Tuesday. On the assignment itself, set the due date for Wednesday. Then go to your Grades page and select the Gear icon to view settings. On the Late Assignment Policy, the second half handles reducing work by a percentage value if late. Set it to reduce the grade by 25% with an interval of Day, with a lowest possible grade set to 50%.

You tell students Tuesday.

Wednesday will have no penalty because Canvas thinks that is the due date.

A submission on Thursday will reduce whatever grade you give by 25%.

A submission on Friday will reduce whatever grade you give by 50%.

This would likely imply to students that it is due Wednesday rather than Tuesday, so you just have to make sure they understand your policy of being one day late without penalty.

Unfortunately, that won't work because it will take points off of students who shouldn't be getting points off. If a student normally scores a 90, they need to get a 75, but this would give them 65.

The way your description read, with a 75% being the highest grade, I figured you meant they would get a 75% if they had perfect work (so earning a 100% if turned in on time). So a 65% because they turned it in late and lost 10% due to mistakes would make sense. With your update, I do not have an idea at the moment for how you could set this up without manually putting in the grades.

In regards to this update, I do have a question. What would a student, who would normally get a 70%, get if they turned in their work two days late? Do they get a 75% or a 70%? If they get a 70% (since that is the lower grade), how might that look for the person with 90%. They get a 15% reduction in their grade while the other person had no reduction in their grade, even though they both turned in their work 2 days late. Not knowing your system for late penalty, I'm just posing the question because it might help someone else to identify a method that will work for you.

If a student scored a 90%, they would get a 75%. If a student scored a 70%, they would get a 70%
