Blending Classes

I’ve been dropped into a situation where classes from 2 different teachers have been combined and made into my classes — 5 sections of high school English.  At present I’m going between 2 different tiles/teachers and it’s simply not working.  Different due dates, assignment requirements — it’s a mess.  A new tile has been created for my classes and the students have joined it, but their grades are still in the old teachers’ tiles.  

How can those scores be transferred/imported into my tile?

You might want to consider exporting the grades from the old teacher's tiles and importing them into the active class!

I haven't done this process too many times so I can't speak much to potential hiccups you might encounter, but this should help you get started at least.

Thanks, Jessica. I’ve been playing with that but haven’t pulled the trigger and actually imported anything yet because I still have kids who haven’t joined the new tile. I can invite them, but I’m afraid that until they’re ALL in if I import stuff everything will get totally messed up.

Do you know if I import before everyone joins if I can go back and import again? Will the import just overwrite what’s already there and not duplicate it?

As students get enrolled in the course, that shouldn't impact your gradebook, but I can understand the hesitancy! Also so you don't have to do this over and over again for each student...

Since you are importing grades, you should be all good to re-import as much as you need without duplicates occuring. The grade import process will just override whatever is already in the gradebook and replace it with what is in the spreadsheet. If something is not in the spreadsheet you are importing in but is in the gradebook already, Canvas won't mess with it.

A small aside- because the import process will replace existing gradebook values with ones in the spreadsheet (if they exist), it's important to keep in mind that if a student has redone work and gotten a higher score or something along those lines, when you import the spreadsheet, that would be replaced with the value from the old gradebook. So just keep an eye out for that!
