Why is it that some items I add to canvas are bolded and some are not?

That's interesting. Thanks for sharing your screenshot. I think this only occurs when you are choosing "External URL" as a module item type that you want to add to your module. Further, when you add an 'External URL" to your module, you can choose the option to "Load in a new tab". If you select this option, then you'll see that small icon to the right of the name with a box and an arrow pointing to the right. This is a visual for you that this website will open in a new tab. However, if you do not select "Load in a new tab", then that icon is not displayed next to the name of the item in the module. Re: the bold vs. non bold... if you select "Load in a new tab", then the item is not bold. If you don't select "Load in a new tab", then the item is bold. I don't know the reasoning for why this is, though. I looked at this Guide, but I don't really see an explanation of why this is.
