Canvas App not Chrome Tab or Window opens on Login

Hey Community, 

We are having a first world problem in our office. 

We use a portal to login to our canvas instance.. In the last month, when you click on the Canvas link in our portal, it opens the App not in Chrome.. We have this experience with Chrome in Mac and PC. 

Does anyone know where this setting is and how to disable it?

It would help to know what kind of device you are using. This is likely due to a "default app" setting

For example, if you are using Android, following the instructions here should help. It may be slightly different based on device, for example, on mine it'd be: Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Opening Links -> Canvas -> Disable "Open supported links"):

It is in chrome on a Mac and a PC.  It sits on top of the browser and results in a lot of extra windows.

I don't have a Mac to test, but if you right-click the link, do you see an option to "Open with..."?

If yes, try that. If not, we'll have to wait someone else to try to help.

Thank you for the screenshot.

It looks like the Canvas webpage might have been installed as a Chrome app (not an actual app like the Android version on Windows or the iPad version on macOS) because the interface in the screenshot shows the normal Canvas interface (not the mobile app interface) in a separate window.

Try the guidance from Google at https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6177447 to view and configure apps/extensions and to remove them.
