Canvas awarding full credit for missing assignments

Why is Canvas automatically awarding points for students who've not submitted assignments? I have 2 different assignments where this has happened. I haven't even looked submissions in SpeedGrader.

If you go into your Gradebook and click on the gear icon at the upper right to open Gradebook Settings, you will find the Late Policies, including a default Grade for missing submissions. Perhaps your institution set an automatic minimum grade for assignments?
