Canvas quiz score inflexibility

THIS ONE CANVAS INFLEXIBILITY WASTES SO MUCH OF MY TIME

Why can't Canvas have functionality to add/subtract points globally on a quiz after students have submitted? Or, better yet, auto change the scores on a quiz after modifying a quiz?

For example, you have a quiz where you accidentally forgot to save a change in a quiz question score (c'mon Canvas... can't the Save button also auto update all questions on the quiz?). So, you've got an incorrect overall score for your quiz. Students take it, you realize you messed up one of the bizzilion Canvas button clicks for the day, and now the score doesn't jibe with your syllabus. But now... a change to that quiz score won't be reflected (students still have an inflated grade) AND you can't globally take adjust the students scores (subtract some value) to make scores match the corrected quiz. The only option is Speedgrader hell. With 150 students, this is ~45 min down the tubes where you could have been enhancing pedagogy.

Hi @akulikow ...

It sounds like you are using the current Classic Quiz interface in Canvas.  I'm not sure if you are aware or not, but Instructure (the folks that make Canvas) are no longer spending significant time developing any enhancements for Classic Quizzes.  Their focus is now on the New Quizzes interface, and there are differences in the interface that you might be interested in.  You can watch a brief tutorial on New Quizzes here:

Your school may not yet have enabled New Quizzes, and that would be a conversation you would need to have with your Canvas administrator or someone from their Online Learning / eLearning / Distance Education department.  They would be able to tell you exactly what their plans are for enabling New Quizzes in your Canvas environment.  It might be that it's already turned on so that you could at least do some initial testing on your end.  Again, a conversation with folks at your school would be appropriate here.

I understand your frustration.  As a way to possibly make the process a little less painful, I will offer the following method which may work for you (I don't know because you did not fully explain the setup you are using).

I will assume that you are using a points based gradebook.  Also, the quiz score total is incorrect and you are willing to just add or subtract the same number of points to each quiz.  In this case, just create an assignment with the name of Quiz X adjustment - you can put information on the assignment as to what the adjustment is and why you are doing it.  Make the assignment worth 0 points.  Then in the gradebook, go to that assignment and select the default grade option from the ellipses menu for the assignment.  make the default grade whatever you want - i.e 2 (for adding 2 points) or -2 for subtracting 2 points.

If you are using weighted assignment groups, then the same approach works there, it is just that the assignment needs to be in that group.
