Clarity with Peer Review

Some of our instructors find the Peer Review function to be confusing.  When they use the automatic assignment of reviewers, our instructors say that it isn't clear to them or to their students WHO is doing the reviewing of WHOSE writing, and WHOM is being reviewed by WHICH reviewer.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this more clear and straightforward?

I am the Canvas administrator and an Instructional Designer.

I find it confusing too, @ACook-RVCC to work out the who and whom of peer review. I made the following video for my faculty, which I hope is helpful:

The things that I find most challenging when teaching with peer review are the following:

  • Students cannot be given a peer to review until after they have made their own submission.
  • Having Canvas automatically distribute peer reviews requires an assumption that all students submit before the date when peer reviews are distributed.

I’m going to mark my response as a solution, but there can be more than one. I hope our colleagues here in the Community share other options.
