Course Analytics does not work for cross-listed courses

Hi, 

We have cross-listed several courses into one parent course all with different instructors.  This was the request of the School vs. using a Blueprint course as there are two lead instructors and then several adjunct instructors that are each assigned a single section.  The issue is that course analytics will only show the students that are assigned to the parent course section.  I don't want to add additional section and add all students in just for course analytics because the lead instructors do now want the adjunct professors to see other sections grades.  Is there some other way for the different instructors to use course analytics for their section of students?  Am I missing something?

@KelliBrenner2 I'm sorry you're facing trouble with the Course Analytics tool in a course with cross-listed sections. While you will likely want to reach out to Canvas Support directly — as they have direct access to your instance — I'll ask a couple of questions that might help you to identify the issue.

1. Do you have a user who is enrolled in all of the sections — possibly the lead instructor or an admin? Does that user have access to a complete Course Analytics report?
2. Who can see the students from the parent course section in Course Analytics? Is there anything different about their role or enrollment(s)?

We cross-list many courses every semester and I have never run into this issue before. I hope the questions above help you to explore and find an answer. If not, Canvas Support will be able to hone in on the cause and should be able to resolve the issue.

Are you (a) cross-listing or (b) do you have a single course shell with multiple sections in it?

I am asking because my institution does not cross-list but we do have courses with multiples section in them and we have not had this problem reported and I am not able to duplicate when I try (while as an admin or an instructor).

When you go into "Course Analytics" and then to "Students", what do you see in the dropdown box above the list of students?  Do you see the sections in the list to pick from?  Do you see all of the students?

Are all of the students listed in the main porton of the page?

This might need to be reported to Instructure/Canvas Support for investigation, explanation, and resolution.
