Cross-listing classes

When you cross list classes in Canvas, it appears as if one class--the mother section--has swallowed the other ones. My students in the swallowed section think they are in the mother section.

Blackboard had a superior system. The cross-listing or merging in Blackboard made it clear that students were not suddenly to another section. The sections were just being merged to simplify sending announcements, posting material, etc.

Hello @martocciar,

You are correct in that the "Parent" course does become the main course and students from the "child" course are merged into the "parent" course.  With Cross-listing, students are not actually moved to a different section, they are just in a different shell of the course but their section remains the same. If your institution allows, we encourage you to modify the course name to avoid confusion. Another option if students are confused would be to send out an announcement or an email to students clarifying this action.  If students have access to the people page, they are able to see the difference in sections of others so that they know what section they are in. I apologize for any inconvenience you are experiencing with this.
