DocViewer - Free Draw Tool and Math Annotation

Hello!

I'm looking for solutions for a faculty who is having issues using the DocViewer Free Draw Tool. This is a math faculty that has stated that in the past, he could free draw equations, but now when he clicks to draw, it begins moving the line (aka the area) rather than drawing an additional line. Is this expected behavior? Or are there others who have solutions specifically for math faculty writing equations?

He was resistant to using the text tool, but that is an option. Any ideas using the free draw tool would be appreciated!
