Download Media Recording from Canvas Speedgrader

How can an instructor download student media recordings from the Canvas Speedgrader?

We've tried enabling the "Performance and Usability Upgrades for SpeedGrader" feature option. This provides a download option in SpeedGrader but when the teacher clicks on it, they get an access denied message. When I click download as an admin, I am able to download the video. It downloads as a webm file that I can't open or convert or do anything with. 

Do you have any advice on how to download student videos to use elsewhere?

Hi!  Someone asked this question perviously, but way back in 2020.   There was a solution provided in 2020 and another in 2025.

The solutions in the thread you provided do not currently work.

@skreitzer Do you have the Feature Option Performance and Usability Upgrades for SpeedGrader on your Settings page? If so, enabling that provides a simple file download in the SpeedGrader sidebar.

If not, you could see if your institution would be willing to allow you to enable the feature in your course.

Did you read my question? Yes, the feature is enabled. My teachers get an access denied message. As an admin, I can download a file that I can't open or convert to a usable file by any means I've tried.

@skreitzer My apologies. I obviously scanned the title and opening sentence and then just went straight to trying to find a solution.

Have you tried reaching out to Instructure support on this? I am going to send a ticket through of my own right now, as I notice this happening as well.
