Download format for student grades

Hello,

When I download Canvas grades as EXCEL there are many empty columns and all assessments have multiple columns.

After downloading as EXCEL, , I have to manually delete unnecessary empty columns and the unwanted results columns.

How can change it to only download the FINAL SCORE or FINAL RESULTS ?

I tried some testing, @bendigo to see if I could limit the number of columns that download, and the best I could do is a single assignment. This did not eliminate the columns for each of the assignment groups and the multiple columns for each group. I then thought to hide the assignment group totals from the page, which is a view option, but that did not prevent multiple columns for each assignment group to appear. 

I agree that deleting extraneous columns from a downloaded data table is a hassle. It would be great if we had greater control over which of the columns for each item were included in the download. 

From here you have a few options. You might be able to use an API call to download the specific information that interests you, but that's something I leave to Community colleagues with more skill than me in that area. Another option is to report this as a bug to your local Canvas support team, but they might refer you to to a third option, which is to create an idea. Creating an idea does not provide an immediate solution to the problem you described, though it is a solution. I’m going to mark it as such and hope that our colleagues in the Community can provide additional support (especially if there is an API option).

Why is this labelled as "solved"? 

The "solution" is just an awkward workaround.

You're right, it is an awkward workaround and likely not the best solution to the problem. The benefit of marking it as "a" solution is for others who have a similar problem and for whom the demands of the present mean an awkward workaround is better than nothing. Besides the options I mentioned (API and contributing to Ideas and Themes), what else do you think would work?

This is my first semester using Canvas, and I've had multiple disappointing chats with online help... I came to this forum with questions, not answers.

You mentioned API, and - I haven't thought of that possibility before reading your reply - but that is awesome idea! I'm in the middle of end-of-semester grading, so very busy...

I will look into API as soon as I'm done. Hopefully documentation is good enough, so I can write some scripts to download automatically. Possibly also some shortcuts for grading. Looking forward to it.
