[ARCHIVED] Editing Sessions in courses

I am editing a course session that was built by someone else. It looks like the session was copied for a previous session and will not let me edit within the details of the session or event.

For example: If I open up a Marketing course and click on session 07 there are details like:

Materials

Code Red paper

Assignments

Answer the below questions.

If I try to add a file or edit anything after materials it will not let me. Almost like the copy has created a shell around that block of information. However, I can add files infront of the word Materials.

How can I fix this? Do I have to have another set of permissions to do that?

 @ganoec ​, "session" isn't a standard term in Canvas so I'm wondering if this course was created with third party content. If so, then you might not be able to edit or tweak it. In general if you have Instructor level rights to a course in Canvas you should be able to tweak and adjust everything in your course. My recommendation would be to contact the Canvas Administrator at your Institution and see if they are able to help. If you're not sure who that is, then you can go to the course in Canvas, click on the Help link and then "Report a Problem."

I think I should have said event or Assignment. It looks like we are able to copy a previous course (same course, different year) into a current course year. Is that correct? I will check with my admin but they are so busy. Thank you.

 @ganoec ​, ah... I think we might have stumbled onto the issue! If you are trying to edit a previous semester/year course than you probably aren't going to be able to (good chance the course was locked down at the end of the semester). Instead what you would do is copy the course over into a new blank shell (so current year course) and then you should be able to edit and do anything you need to do! Ok, I think that is what someone else did (copy from a prior course into a blankshell). Does that not allow you to edit if you have editing rights?

Nicole (sorry, your name shows up as Cean in the Community), you "should" have editing rights for a new course as long as you're the Instructor or have similar level privileges.

Cean is fine, that is my first name. Ok, I will have to see what is happening. I can edit a new course, but if someone else copies it from an old course then for some reason I can't edit the text they copied.
