Editing user sections erases user progress

We have been running into an issue where moving a user to a different section within the same course makes it so they cannot progress to the next modules in the Mastery Path. When I go in to the assignments the user should be able to access, their name does not show up under "Assign to" and I have to manually re-assign them to those assignments. Has anyone had that issue? There must be a better solution rather than having to manually reassign them
