I have always embedded YouTube videos with no problem. Today, I embedded multiple videos into a canvas module page; I can see the videos while in "edit" mode, but once I "save" the video it disappears. I've tried on Firefox and Chrome. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Good morning, @richard_epps ...
I just tried to embed a YouTube video into a content page within my own sandbox course, and it worked perfectly. Here are my steps:
Essentially, I'm using the directions found here:
How do I embed media from an external source in th... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)
What are the steps you are taking to embed your YouTube video in your course?
Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!
Thanks for the reply. I tried it your way--which is basically the same process. Here is my usual way of embedding YouTube videos or other items.
1. Select "share" from the selected video
2. Select "embed" option", and select "copy"
3. Go to Canvas page and select "edit"
4. Select "embed" from the Insert dropdown menu
5. Paste "embed" code in box, and "Save"
This has always worked until today for some reason???

Hmmm...that's strange. It looks like you are doing the same thing that I am. Have you tried embedding the video in another course? Have you tried using a different web browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.)? Have you tried another Canvas environment such as a Free For Teacher account?
This is what the HTML looks like for the page I created with the embedded video:
<p><iframe title="YouTube video player" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Lzxf4tfq9as" width="560" height="315" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share"></iframe></p>
I'm assuming your code would look similar to that?
Hi Chris,
Yep, I do the same as you. I have not tried the other possibilities that you mention. Oddly enough, it only seems to be doing it within one course. But oddly enough, I have videos that I've embedded in the past week. Below is a sample embed code that only shows up in edit mode!
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WiTzRn43tbk" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
@richard_epps ...
For the most part, I think that all looks good. But, in comparing my HTML to your HTML, at the end of your code, it has allowfullscreen. If you take a look at my HTML, it has:
allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"
I also don't have the frameborder="0" portion, either.
I'm not sure if these are the differences or not.
Also, just for fun, I copied all of your HTML code into my content page within my own sandbox course. When I saved the edits to my page, I was able to see your video and play it just fine.
Hello @richard_epps
Were you able to test those other options like a different web browser to see if it had the same outcome? You might also consider clearing for browser cache and cookies for all time. It could also be happening because of some other HTML that is in the page causing the video to not display.
If you create a new blank page and embed a video and nothing else does it display once you save the page? If it continues to happen where the embedded video is the only content that you have added then you might want to consider reaching out to Canvas Support.
