Fire Drill! Handling Unplanned Disruptions to a Timed Quiz?

Hi Community,

Does anyone have a best practice that works for them with regard to unplanned disruptions to a timed quiz?  For example, say your students are taking a 1-hour timed quiz.  30 minutes in, the fire alarm goes off, and everyone needs to evacuate.  20 minutes later, they are allowed back in and now have only 10 minutes left to complete the quiz because the timer's been running.

The ideal thing would be for a faculty member to be able to mass-pause timers for anyone taking the quiz, but I don't think that's ever been an option.  Does anyone have a "next best thing" that works for them?

Hello @Len_Hoover - in such a situation you could opt to Moderate the quiz and provide another attempt or perhaps instead extend the time. I suppose it depends on how much class time remains and if this is a low stakes formative 'quiz' of more of a summative exam. If it is summative then it probably wouldn't be a candidate for take home work.
