Grade New Quizzes After Course Conclusion

This help guide about grading New Quizzes says that "you cannot grade New Quizzes quizzes in concluded courses." This is a problem for our online courses where the final week's content is due on the final day of class. So the course closes at the end of the final day, but instructors still need to grade everything from the final week. Is this a problem for anyone else? It seems like a design flaw to be unable to grade New Quizzes after the course closes. Other assignments that are not New Quizzes are still able to be graded. 

If this truly is the intended design for New Quizzes, we won't be able to transition to them because our instructors have to be able to grade assignments (including any quizzes with essay questions) after the course ends.

As of now, that is correct - "concluded" courses can't have New Quizzes graded after the fact. We will have enhanced grading capabilities for New Quizzes but that isn't projected until later in 2023. You are welcome to continue using classic quizzes if you wish - especially if the teachers are accustomed to it. There are some work arounds, but it would require the course to be active still for grading. To clarify, there are a few ways a course ends. Grading periods, SIS dates, course setting dates, concluded, etc. Some of these can easily be manipulated and then reverted back, but the status of "concluded" will prevent New Quizzes from being graded. Hopefully  this helps.

At our school we use the course end date in Settings for the last day of class, but our sections have an end date 2 weeks later to allow for grading, and for students to see their grades. We check the option that students can only participate during the section dates. That way courses don't conclude until the section ends.  Maybe other schools do it differently, but being able to edit after the last day of class seems to be imperative for most of us.

I don't know if you have editing rights on section dates, but maybe the Canvas admin can consider this setup.

So it would appear that New Quizzes are CONCLUDED at the end-date of a course which is WHY they cannot be graded, they are auto concluding. It doesn't even have anything to do with the course being concluded. There is no way to STOP this except to change the dates of the course at the section level, which are usually set by SIS, I know they are at my institution. 

A New Quiz cannot be graded after the end-date of a course. 

Note the following - the course end-date has not passed per the settings in image EndDates_1. The section date, set by the SIS, has passed image EndDate_2. note that the course is NOT concluded per the settings.

The quiz availability date has not passed, image EndDate_4. 

EndDate_5 is the concluded window that appears when I attempt the test in Student View.

The fact that New Quizzes CONCLUDE according to the end-date of a course is COMPLETELY not OKAY. AND I feel like this only just started happening. I don't ever recall running into an issue where a faculty could not grade a New Quiz after the end of the course has passed. 

I need the courses to end to students but faculty need to be able to access the course AND New Quizzes to grade.
