Group Assignments for External Learning Tools in Canvas

Dear Instructure & Canvas Community Members,
I wanted to bring back a topic that was previously discussed and has been archived regarding the implementation of Group Assignments for External Learning Tools. Currently when the "External Tool" assignment type is selected during Assignment creation the option for Group Assignments is disabled.
The question I'm resurfacing:
"Does anyone else want to see group assignments enabled for external-tool submissions?"

I'm particularly interested in understanding why this feature is unavailable for this specific Assignment Type (External Tools). And I'd be curious to hear from other users and LMS administrators about whether this feature would be helpful to them. The user feedback at the time was thirty 5/5 star votes requesting this functionality and as someone who has enabled many Assignment-based integrations in Canvas, I see the great benefit of this potential functionality.
