how do i create a question group that allow students to select three out of five possible essay questions?

Does this even require a technical solution? Based on the limited information you have provided, I would just put the essay topics in the assignment description/guidance and ask students to pick three to write about.

Thanks for the response. It may not require any kind of technical solution, but I can’t find an explanation for how to create 3 separate response fields.

So, for example, the Question Group asks me to fill this out: 

 Pick  questions,  pts per question

 

 

If put in, say, 3 questions for 10 points each, would all 3 responses need to be lumped into one answer field? (Which seems to be what you are suggesting) Or is there a way to create 3 separate response fields so that I can grade each response on its own?
