How do I hide the grades/comments of just a few students. I have 2 students who plagiarized. I wrote lots of feedback on their papers before I caught it, so I don't want to delete that. I have not given them actual grades. How do I post the rest of the class's grades while waiting for these 2 students to resubmit their work? If I click to show all graded students, will the feedback on the 2 students be shown, even though I deleted their numerical grades?
@Luara Yes, if you have deleted the grade then when you post the rest of the grades, their grade should be blank but they should still see feedback.
If you still want to double check this beforehand, you can go to your test instance http://xxxxx.test.instructure.com. Anything you do in the test environment won't go out to students, so you can go to your course, student view, submit the assignment, go back as a teacher, give a grade, give feedback, remove grade, show all grades and then go back into the student view again.
That's what I was afraid of. How can I prevent the feedback from being shown?
I think there may be a workaround to accomplish what you want, but it's not exactly ideal. You can hide/post grades to different sections (groups of students). So you could create a new section, move those 2 students into it, and keep the grades and feedback hidden for them. Not exactly elegant, but I think it would work.
I saw this posted as a response in another thread and tried it, but I couldn't get it to work. I was able to create a group, but I don't have the ability to move anyone but myself into a group. When I go to my list of students, I'm supposed to be able to click on the 3 dots next to the student's entry and be able to move them into a group. However, I am the only one with 3 dots next to their entry. I tried looking up different instructions in case the ones I found on the official Canvas help page were out of date, but I couldn't find any. So, this isn't a workaround that works for me, sadly!
Hi @Luara
Can I ask if you created a new section or a new group? They are two different things in canvas. I'm in the UK and we don't use the word section to describe groups of students, so I didn't originally understand what sections were.
Our version of Canvas has something called sections. I cannot find anything about groups, so I assume it's the same thing? My question is not about groups/sections. I'm just trying to figure out how to release some feedback without releasing all feedback. I'm used to Brightspace LMS, which requires you to hit "publish" for each assignment individually, giving you full control.
