SpeedGrader, accessed froM Assignments, requires "Select Group to Grade" be picked from a pull down menu. By default The menu is empty. One must assign students to Groups. I want to grade all students so I need to create a group that contains all students. I can do so under People, but then need to manually drag students ONE AT A TIME into the newly created group. This works fine with a few students, not so good for courses with hundreds of students. How do I (the instructor) add all students to a group so I can use SpeedGrader?
Solved! Go to Solution.
@bgrinstein That behavior is caused by a checkbox in the course Settings > Details tab. If you are able to deactivate that setting, you can save the time of making a group for all students.
How do I enable SpeedGrader to launch filtered by student group?
Thanks! This solved it. (Not sure how that was selected in Settings>Details to begin with, but that's now irrelevant)
Hi @bgrinstein
Is the assignment that you're trying to grade set as a Group assignment in the assignment settings?
The only reason you should be asked for a group to grade in Speedgrader is if what you are grading is a group assignment. And if it's a group assignment, students should have been assigned to the groups before the students submitted the assignment.

Not sure what you mean. Assignments are arranged into Assignment Groups. For example, I have "Reading Quizzes" assignments. And I have other assignment groups. These are not people groups. See first attached screenshot.
In my assignments The box under "Group Assignment BOX This is a group assignment" is NOT checked. The only reference to People is under Assign Access (for which I have Assign to "Everyone").
So you "The only reason ..." statement does not seem to be correct.
Help?
Where in Speedgrader are you seeing "Select Group to grade"?

Thanks for pointing that out, @stimme
In the Settings > Course Details screen, the setting looks like this:
