Hello. I have a parent account in Canvas in order to observe my two children. For some reason I am getting emails regarding my older child's grade on the same few assignments multiple times a day, to the tune of hundreds of emails each day. My child's teacher has contacted Canvas support regarding this issue and relayed what parents should do to fix the issue. I have gone into my account and done as Canvas support instructed. I am now getting even more emails from this course than I was before. I have notified my child's teacher, who is unsure what to do next. Please let me know how this can be fixed. I have now turned off all notifications for this course but do not view this as a permanent solution, as I want and need to be notified of my child's grades. I can find nowhere in Canvas to contact someone about this problem so am posting here.

@BrookeKest I am incredibly sorry about the egregious influx of notifications you are receiving. I hope you don't get discouraged about your role as an Observer for your students. I looked into the notifications that you are receiving, and the issue lies with an external tool that is embedded in at least one of the students courses. This external site is posting grades in Canvas for numerous assignments at least every hour--even if there is no change to the grades for you student. Every time the grades get posted to Canvas unfortunately, a new notification is sent to you about the assignment being graded. You can manage the notifications from one course following the process here How do I manage notifications for a single course as an observer?
The admin at the school or the teacher of the course will need to correct the configuration on this external tool for it to stop sending grades to Canvas this frequently, but in the meantime, instead of disabling all Canvas notifications, I would recommend that you change the notifications for the course in question so that either you don't receive notifications about assignments getting graded for that particular course, or change the frequency for that course to being a Daily digest. This will allow you to receive a managable number of notifications from Canvas and allow you to keep up to date about your children.
In regards to the notifications you received after you disabled notification, changes to notifications (especially email notifications) do not take effect immediately and can take a few hours to completely register in the system (and for queued messages to be sent out).
Update: Even after turning off notifications for the course I am still getting emails. I've gotten more than 30 since my first comment 2 hours ago.

Thank you very much for getting back to me about this. I forwarded your response on to my child's teacher and have (hopefully) adjusted my notification settings so that I won't receive the "egregious influx" (Perfect description! It also made me giggle, which likely was not your intent, but I appreciated nonetheless.) of notifications. Prior to receiving your response today I was still getting hundreds of emails, so hopefully your solution will fix the problem until the school can address it. Thanks again! I greatly appreciate you getting back to me.
