If an instructor manually grades an assignment, does that change the student's Participation Date?

If an instructor manually grades an assignment, does that change the student's Participation Date in the course?

We have Assignments in our courses that are set to have a file upload, but which most students will fulfill through attending a live Zoom meeting. 

If the faculty manually sets the student's grade for the assignment, will that update the student's Participation Date? Or do we have to have another method to make sure that gets updated?

We need to make sure the Participation Date for all students includes these assignments so that we can use it for the Last Date of Attendance for US Department of Education financial aid reporting purposes.

I tested this, and it did not update the Last Participation.
