Hello.
We have a few users complaining their logging and all site experience is very slow.
I believe they go to the the https://<MyOrg>.instructure.com/login/canvas enter Email and Password and click [Log In]. From that moment to dashboard appearing it takes a long time. Also pretty much any click after that takes a long time up to error 504 Time-out.
Just a few users have this issue. Others seems to be fine. These particular users have kind of an inspector role and are assigned as a teacher to quite a lot of courses (about 1000). Could it be a reason for that? Would assigning them in a different role (observer for example) make any difference? Could there be a different reason for this problem?
I'd appreciate any help on dealing with this matter.
Thank you!
Hi @alexei-bezpaltc -
I haven't heard of additional reports today, but it looks like others saw the 504 error earlier this week.

If you continue to receive these errors, please reach out to Canvas Support. How do I contact Canvas Support?
Thank you, but no. This is not like one time thing. These people were seeing this issue for a while.
Hi @alexei-bezpaltc,
I'm a Canvas admin for my institution, and in my experience, having a user enrolled into 1000 active courses is very rare, and I would say is likely the cause of slowness as Canvas has to load course info to populate the dashboard. While I cannot say 100% for sure that the number of enrollments is the cause, if the only users reporting the issue are ones with a significant number of active enrollments, that further points to that being an issue.
If this is the issue, changing their course role probably won't help much. Making them some kind of limited admin instead of enrolling them into courses may help as courses wouldn't show up on the dashboard and cause slowness. The downside is you may be giving those people more access that you wish, even if you create a limited admin role.
I know this isn't necessarily an answer, but I hope the info helps you think about possible alternatives.
