Loss of comment structure in gradebook view

In a recent update, we seem to lost text structure in the comments. That structure is shown when you click "Show all details", but you used to be able to expand one comment at a time, while retaining the original text structure in which the comment was written. Now when you click an individual comment, it comes up in a side window, and the original text structure is gone. 

Is there a way around this problem? It seems unpedagogical that students who read one comment at a time have to navigate a different text structure than was intended (e.g. indentation, listed points).
