Merging Canvas Accounts

Is there a way to merge Canvas accounts for students and staff?  We have several students in programs outside our school who participate in Canvas as well as teachers who are in higher ed that use Canvas.  Is there a way to merge these accounts for a single sign on?

As long as you are an account admin you have the ability to merge accounts.  Below is the a link to a Canvas Admin guide that will walk you through step by step on how to merge accounts.

To be clear, I see the instructions in Canvas on how to merge, but if another school/institution has created the Canvas course for the students in question, can I still merge the accounts? Ex. J. Smith is a student at XXX school.  He is also part of a program at a different school district that uses Canvas.  That school has created a course for the students in their program.  Can I-as the admin-merge his two accounts so that he can view courses from both schools in one account?

 @jelfrink ​, thanks for clarifying your question. It is my understanding that credentials in different accounts (or "instances," as they are also called) cannot--or at minimum, should not--be merged. The student or teacher needs to use a specific URL and set of credentials to log into each Canvas instance.
