One time only automated "free pass" for waiving a LATE assignment submission?

Does anyone know if Canvas has a function that allows students a "free pass" for turning an assignment in late without being penalized?
(I can easily imagine how to do this manually--by keeping track of the first late assignment for each student, but I am looking for an automated way that allows students to make this decision themselves once per semester--kind of like a one time only "get out jail free" card in Monopoly).

Hi Alex,

There are options for doing things like automatically dropping the lowest assignment grade, but there's not really a way to allow students to avoid the late penalty for just one particular assignment, if you have an automated late policy set up.
