Quiz autosubmits when student attempts to take quiz after date amendment

Quiz has been set with a 3 day window.  Not time limited.

Some students have completed the quiz.  Some have started it but not submitted.  A few hours before the closing window time is reached, the teacher then extends the availability by a further 72 hours (so a further 3 days).

When the incomplete students re-enter the quiz,  their attempt is autosubmitted within 60 seconds of entry (with a warning to that effect), even though the new closing time is now still 60 hours away.  All affected students re-entered the quiz after the original closing date but before the new closing date.

Any students who entered the quiz for the first time AFTER the closing date change are unnaffected.

Logs of the affected students show no sign of submission.

@PeterDelgado I have always had the same result when you change a setting after students have begun a quiz attempt.  I have had my whole department test this in various ways and we continue to see the same result even though the documentation would have you believe that you can make changes once a student has begun the quiz attempt.  I pointed this out in a different thread and someone on that thread said it works for them but I have yet to see it allow for changes in Classic or New Quizzes.  So, what you are seeing is expected from everything I have seen.

A response from Canvas says that making a change (any change to the quiz), creates a new instance of the quiz, so effectively if they have started but not submitted, they are thrown out of (autosubmitted) the first "instance" and expected to go into the new one.
I tried a search for similar posts but could not find any. Do you have a link to that thread?

This happens regardless of the fact that there are still 60 hours left before the new closing time. However, students who took the quiz after the closing date was changed will not be affected. I myself participated in it when I was a student, I had to find an article about the first amendment for the quiz, I used https://edubirdie.com/examples/first-amendment/ for this. But it was cool. Despite this, the journals of the affected students show no sign of submission. A system to automatically submit a quiz after a date change ensures a fair and consistent process. This helps to maintain a level playing field for all quiz participants.
