Releasing a grade for a single student

Hi,

This topic was asked back in 2021 and archived and am wondering if there has been any progress since then. I can't see anything new in the Guides. 

Context:

I have students undertake oral vivas online across a 4-week period. If a student fails and is required to re-sit e.g., in week 1, then obviously (due to the length of time) I do not want to wait until the last viva has been completed prior to releasing their grade and comment. 

Question:

Is there a function where I can only release a solitary grade for a failed student and not have all other students receive their grade at the same time?

Hello @EileenHarris - I just reviewed the guides for the grade posting policy and I am not seeing a mechanism to bypass the policy set for the assignment for select (failed) students. The use of this feature means comments are not sent to nor are available to students. Per this guide: How do I select a grade posting policy for a cours... - Instructure Community - 588 

As such I would add a note to the submission comments and then use Canvas Messaging or the 'Message Students Who' in SpeedGrader to send the student(s) the information.  This could be text and/or a screen grab attachment of the rubric. Here I share a message I use on occasion...  

(Studentname, unfortunately you were not successful with this activity and earned a failing score/grade. Due to this you will be required to complete xyz additional work ahead of retaking this assessment. Please schedule office hours with me and we'll work on a study plan.
