Rollover and 2 Year Courses and Short Names

At our school we offer qualifications that takes two years to complete.
We roll out separate Canvas courses for Year 1 and then Year 2 because the courses would be huge otherwise. Also, some students may only take the Year 1 option.
Students have access to both courses for the duration of their qualification.
Our course SIS IDs are obviously unique and also identify the year in which the course was created eg 2425-Y10-Eng1A
Our course short names / Course IDs don't contain any identifier to the year they were made - so Y10-Eng1A
Should I include a year identifier for the short name/course ID?
Students will never have two classes with the same name. The only issue would be with staff having to be careful when managing courses (although our Term dates help with some of that process)
We have no SIS integration by the way. This is all SIS imports from a spreadsheet
Any thoughts from the experts?
Thanks as always in advance...

I would say yes, include the year identifier in the short name. You're not really saving that many characters by leaving it off, and it would make the staff's lives simpler to be able to easily distinguish between them.
