Sorting the Student dropdown in the Observer Dashboard

Back in 2022 the Observer Dashboard was enhanced to allow the ability to filter for a particular student with a dropdown list.  However, the dropdown was never sorted by name, it seems to be random or maybe by a Canvas ID which is not very useful.  We are wanting to use this dashboard to provide a way for Advisors to view their students as observers but if an advisor has many students (like 20 or more) the dropdown is not user friendly.  Has any school tried a 'canvancement' JavaScript to sort the dropdown and would be willing to share it.
