The page bumps up when I type in the Speedgrader feedback box, and my typing stops. Any ideas on how to correct this? It is very frustrating! I have updated the Apple machine to the latest Sequoia. I am using the Chrome browser, and I have cleared the cache and cookies. It is still happening.
Weird. A similar issue happened to another user I helped a while ago. Can you provide a screen recording of the problem and your Device details? That could be useful!
And to summarize, in that case, the solution was to reset the zoom in the browser to 100%. Zoom levels close to 100% (above 80%) still worked without the issue.
Maybe @carla_macdonald needs to do the same.
I keep my Zoom in the browser at 100%.
Hmmm... Maybe Apple Machines work best if you shrink the browser.
Haha...I'm too old for smaller!
Do you want the error fixed or not?
In the other situation, having it at 100% seemed to work. This also seems like a different issue from the description.
@carla_macdonald, could you check my other reply asking about Grammarly?
I just tried resetting zoom to 100%, and it continues to "refresh" on me. Like Carla, I'm on a MacBook Air.
Nora
Do you have Grammarly installed? From the video, it looks like you do, and it looks like the issue happens when those icons on the bottom right of the text box update.
You can try disabling Grammarly and/or similar extensions and see if that fixes it.
This is happening to me, too! Very annoying. I'll start typing in the comments box, get maybe a line into it, and then something will update or refresh after 5-10 sec which requires me to move the mouse to the text box and clicking to get my cursor back to continue typing. It's a minor inconvenience but starts to add up after 50+ assignments. It didn't used to do this! 🤷🏼♂️
Derik,
I have tried the following with no resolution:
Hopefully, someone at Canvas will see this and offer more solutions!
Do you have other machines? Try using them to see if it happens there.
I do not. Only Apple products.
Derik, I'm using an Apple machine, what about you?
Can you share a video with Grammarly disabled? Is there still that green/red circle in the bottom right of the textbox updating when the issue occurs?
I have this issue all the time and it's SO frustrating. It just started happening this year (2025, maybe 2024) but never happened before. It does feel like there is a refresh or something, maybe with the accessibility checker, and that causes the typing to pause. I have to look at my fingers when I type so sometimes I will be 50 words in, look over at the text box and NONE of it was being typed. It's infuriating and something Canvas needs to fix.
To reference some of the questions being posed here:
- it happens on my work computer and my old home computers (my old Chromebook and my brand new laptop)
- It happens to my colleagues, too
- It doesn't matter what I have my screen size set to (100%, 80%, etc.)
- It makes grading at least 20x longer than it otherwise would.
Canvas, please fix this ASAP
Hello,
I figured out that turning off the automatic suggestions in the Comment Library resolved this issue for me. In the SpeedGrader, click on the little comment icon, which should open up your stored comments. At the top is a toggle button next to "Show suggestions when typing." Toggle this off. I have had no issues since turning this feature off, and I hope it works for you too!
Nora
This has NOT been resolved. The work-around is to turn off the feature itself, which isn't a fix at all.
