I am trying to track and communicate with students who are not viewing or participating with the content. I view New Analytics-Weekly Online Activity-then I look at the information by week; example April 19-April 26. I had previously been using this view to contact students who have not logged in or have not participated. Some students were emailing me back saying they had been logging in and submitting the work. I confirmed this by checking their submissions and grading their assignments.
Currently I have students who have submitted their assignments and are still showing zero views and zero participations. Is this an error on my part or an error on the back end?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @emiguel2 and welcome to the Community! This is probably something you are going to need to contact Canvas Support directly about (see How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor?). My guess is that a Support agent is going to need to dig into your course and Canvas instance a bit to see what data is appearing or not, which is something no one here in the Community is able to do.
If you find out what is happening, please let us know! I haven't had anyone report this at my institution, but if it pops up it would be nice to know what you found out!

I'm seeing the same issue at my institution (submitted and graded assignments, but total participations at 0), were you ever able to resolve this?
No, no exactly. But I did notice that if I looked at stats before the week was over, and then looked at them after the week was over, participation had changed slightly. So, I can only assume that either students were participating late in the week or Canvas New Analytics wasn’t showing participation until after the week was completed. I’m still not sure precisely when the week ends in Canvas New Analytics’ view, but I noticed participation changed from the time I checked data on Friday to Sunday or Monday morning. I resorted to waiting until Monday morning to check data, then send out notices to parents/students, etc.
I, too, am having this situation. Student analytics are showing activity for the majority of my students. However, one student has submitted assignments and participated, but Canvas is showing they've never logged in. Is this something Canvas support will need to investigate?
I'm afraid I don't have an answer for this, but I will add another related question / problem to this thread:
I have the reverse situation, where the analytics reports participation with tasks where no submission has been received. The tasks are graded quiz / survey / discussion type activities. I'm wondering if the student is entering things in their view without hitting [submit] and this is sufficient for it to register with analytics?
It would explain why in the past I have seen multiple participation numbers for single tasks with only one submission.
If anyone knows, I'd be grateful for some clarity around this.
