Submitting multiple documents for one assignment

Hi. I need students to be able to submit two separate documents for an assignment.  They may be different file types.  I see older questions about this indicate that as long as "unlimited submissions" is checked students can do so BUT they can only see the last submission and can only see instructor comments on the last submission.  Has this changed? I need students to be able to see both of their submissions and comments on both submissions. Thanks.

Hi @PhoebeMilliken --

On this Canvas Student Guide (How do I submit an online assignment), under "Select Submission Type" is an image that shows where students who on on the File Upload tab can click to "+Add Another File."   This is not related to a number of submission attempts (that's to allow them to submit again) -- and all files can be seen in one submission.   You will be able to see the files in Speedgrader.

You'll want to make sure you have selected File Upload as your Submission Type for your Assignment.

In addition to the response you received from @Hildi_Pardo, I am not sure if your school has turned on the Assignment Enhancements feature for students yet or not.  This feature would allow your students to review previous submissions to a given assignment.  It would be displayed as a drop-down list where students could cycle through their attempts at an assignment.  Here are a handful of Guides that might help you:

Hi @PhoebeMilliken , just to add to @Hildi_Pardo and @Chris_Hofer ;

In our institutions students can usually make multiple Canvas submissions but our regulations are that the latest submission is the submission that must be graded, and it is therefore essential that students upload ALL of their files in a single sitting.

They also cannot make a partial upload before the deadline and complete the submission in the late work period (the time between the Due Date and the Available Until Date). Any partial submission is treated as complete once the deadline passes.

We have found that neither teachers nor students fully appreciate this, so it is important that this is clearly spelled out in the assignment instructions. It's an inconvenience in the marking process to have to go hunting for files split across multiple submissions.... and more of an inconvenience when we have to ask our Academic Directors for permission to mark work spread across several submissions.

If your institution is new to Canvas, then the guidance and regulations may still be emerging based on how Canvas operates.
