To-Do List for TAs - Need to Turn Off

Several of our instructors are departments leads and are automatically enrolled as TAs in each course in their department. This leads to their receiving an enormous number of notifications and To-Do List items for these classes, in addition to the ones for the courses they actually teach. We've shown them how to turn off the notifications for these extra classes, but we can't seem to do anything about the To-Do List items. Is there a setting or anything else we can do about turning these off for TAs?

Getting a lot of notifications is no fun, @TraceyDeCicco. I teach classes on how to teach with Canvas and am enrolled as an instructor in *each* of my participants' sandbox courses where they do hands-on exercises. Once those notifications start rolling in, I've developed muscle memory to turn off notifications for those courses. 🤣

I wonder if your instructors have their Dashboard set to list view instead of card view, which does crowd the window with all of the items on the to do list. Otherwise, those To Do list items only appear on the home page of each item's course. Another option I suggest is to unfavorite those courses in which they are enrolled as a TA. This won't change the content of the Canvas-wide To Do list, but at least it will give them fewer cards to look at if they're in card view.

I’m going to mark this reply as a solution. I realize it does not solve your problem, but it will help our colleagues who have a similar question.

@TraceyDeCicco

You can implement a custom To-Do list and apply filters to remove TA course enrollment submissions from the list. You can PM me if you need help setting this up
