Hello @PhilipWallace ...
In searching Canvas Commons for "Canvas 101", there are many courses that come up with search results with that name, so I'm not exactly sure which "Canvas 101" course you are referring to. Generally speaking, though, when you click on a course that has been shared to Commons, you should see a "Version notes" tab. (This tab may be grayed out, however.) If the tab is clickable, then the person who shared the resource may have included notes on that page as to when it was last updated and/or what parts of the content were updated. For example, if you searched for the words "disc golf" (without the quotation marks) in Commons, the first result you might see is a module shared by Jacob H. When I click on his module name, I can see he has added "Version notes" several times when he had updated the content back in 2020. This is how it would look for that course, too, if there was any information available. The following Guide would be how a person could re-share a resource to Commons and then add version notes to let people know it has been updated:
How do I update a resource I previously shared to ... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)
Unfortunately, there isn't a great way to contact Jacob (or whoever shared the resource) within Commons. If you click on the "Details" tab, you might be able to see what school the person was from...listed under the heading "Account". But, you would then need to know the school URL and then see if a public staff directory was available. Or, maybe better yet...try reaching out to the school's Canvas administrator or someone from their Online Learning / eLearning / Distance Education team to see if they would be able to help you further.
I know this might not directly address your question, but hopefully it gives you some ideas on where to start investigating on your own so you can determin if the "College 101" course you're looking at has had any recent updates. Good luck to you!
