What does IS mean in roles?

I'm trying to add a student to my course, but I didn't see a "student role" on the drop down menu. What does "IS" stand for as a role?

Hi @DaniellePhillip -
It could very likely be that your school created a custom role and labeled it as IS. Because it is not one of the core (or built-in) roles with Canvas, this question would probably be best for your Canvas Administrator. I hope they'll be able to help you understand what it means!
