What happens if I leave the Available from and Until dates blank?

If I create a Discussion and leave the Available from and Until dates blank, when is the Discussion first visible to students, and when does it stop being visible?
The Discussion does have a due date for required participation.

Hi @russ_abbott - Please see https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12913-415241361 for an explanation of this. Since there is no availability dates set, students will be able to post into this discussion as soon as they are given access to the course shell and both it and the discussion are published. Since the until date is also not set, students will not lose ability to post after the due date and instead will be able to add to the discussion "late" - if they do so, Canvas SpeedGrader will clearly flag their submission as late for you.
