[ARCHIVED] Why is the collaboration tab hidden in the course navigation?

I just received a question from a faculty member asking why the collaboration tab is missing now from the course navigation.  I have just noticed this as well.  What would have caused the collaborations to be hidden?  Collaborations is not even showing up on the page to edit the course navigation.

Is it possible this is specific to your institution? I'm still seeing a collaboration link on our courses. It would be fairly easy for an admin to add some Javascript to hide that tab on every course. I don't know why they would, but it's possible.

That is what I thought as well but when I use development tools in chrome to remove the display=none css value.  I see the link but after I press the link.  I get a blank page.  That makes me think it might be something with the permissions but I have all the permissions associated with collaborations enabled.

You might need to put in a ticket with Canvas Customer Support. They are usually really quick when I have to call them or chat with them.

I clicked on a collaborations link and it was not blank in our instance.

I second contacting Canvas support. I just checked and Collaborations are working fine at our Institution as well.

could it be that your institution admin doesn't have any connected collaboratin' (e.g. googly docs) web service setup?   thus, collaboratin' can't collaborate with anything?
