I need to disable the calendar.  How do I do that?

By disable, do you mean you do not want to see any events on your calendar?  Or, do you want to avoid having assignments in your course applied to the calendar for students?

For your view, click on the calendar and then on the right hand side deselect all the courses that are selected to show content in your calendar view.

I do not know of a way to just completely turn the calendar off.
