I have searched topics on how to delete an instructor's comment regarding a student's assignment. I found three options: 1) hover over the comment *2) click on an "x" *3) click on a "t" (cross). None of these have been successful. How do I delete a comment I made to a student regarding their submitted assignment? Thank you. Kevin Mattson/Instructor

@KevinRM ...
Thanks for the detail on where you were seeing those options via the fly-out menu in your "Grades" screen. I think the area I was referring to was directly in the SpeedGrader for the student's assignment. Good on you to work with a student to see if your comments could be edited/deleted. You could also test this with your school's local Canvas administrator. They may have a "dummy" student account they would use to test out all of this in a sandbox course or something similar. Good luck to you as you try this all out.
Hi @KevinRM ...
Where does the comment appear for the student's assignment? Are you referring to comments you can type on the right-hand side of the SpeedGrader (to the right of where you can view the document the student has submitted to you for the assignment)? Or, are you asking about deleting comments that you have made as annotations directly on the document the student submitted?
If you are asking about removing comments on the right-hand side of the document in the SpeedGrader, this Guide shows you how you can delete comments (using the "X"): How do I leave feedback comments for student submi... - Instructure Community. Check out the section on "View Draft Comment" near the bottom of the Guide.
If you are asking about deleting comments that you had made as annotations directly on the student's submission, there are multiple areas of this Guide that show how you can use the trashcan icon to delete those kinds of items: How do I add annotated comments in student submiss... - Instructure Community.
Hopefully this will be helpful to you. Let Community members know if you still have questions about this...thanks!

I'm not sure why, but your reply was posted as a brand new topic here in the Community. I went ahead and moved your above reply back to this topic so that everything is in one spot rather than in two different places...just to keep everything organized.
As I look at the Guide that I provided to you, How do I leave feedback comments for student submi... - Instructure Community - 764 (canvaslms.com), if you take a look at the section called "View Comments", the screenshot does show the "X" next to both of the example comments...indicating to me that those comments should be able to be deleted. As another example, in this Guide, How do I use SpeedGrader? - Instructure Community - 757 (canvaslms.com), there's a similar (but different) screenshot showing the "X" as well under the section "View Reassign Assignment". Both of these Guides would indicate to me that instructor comments *should* be able to be deleted by the instructor. If this is not the case for you, I'd recommend reaching out to your school's Canvas administrator or someone from your school's Online Learning / eLearning / Distance Education team to see if they can help troubleshoot this with you more.
Re: replying to my topic here in the Community...it sounds like you might have notifications turned on to notify you via e-mail when someone responds. I've got these turned off in my own profile...as I much prefer to look at all my notifications her in the Community site. I never get e-mail notifications because I'm checking the Community on almost a daily basis. So, I don't use the links provided in those e-mail notifications to try and reply...which is what you might have been doing...and why it created the separate topic.
Hope this helps.
Concerning editing and deleting student work in Canvas:
Chris,
Regarding our ongoing communication, I was able to determine the following: 1) Click on a student's score in Grades. 2) Next to the score is an arrow, which I clicked on. 3) I scrolled up to make my comments visible. 4) There was a pencil icon, which may allow me to edit the comment. 5) There was a trash can making it possible to discard the comment.
I will ask one of my students if I may edit one of my comments and also delete one in a specific module. This will provide me the experience to edit (if allowed) and delete as necessary in the future.
(I had read suggestions offered to other individuals in the forum for Canvas. They were not in agreement. I also reviewed the Guide which was not very helpful.)
Kevin
On a side note, in the past years, I have used iLearn, Moodle, Blackboard and now Canvas. "The jury is still out (undecided)" on which is the most user-friendly!)
