letting students retake a frozen quiz

Something went wrong for two of my students when taking a quiz. Their quizzes are marked as "In Progress" for the last 3 days, and hang up when I try to view them. I went in moderation and tried to set it so they get a second attempt, but neither one can because Canvas thinks they are still in the first attempt (but it still hangs up when they try to view it). Is there another step I need to take?
