"Submit" is no longer an option when assigning module requirements to discussions.

I use Canvas discussions for speech submissions. Historically, when I assign module requirements I will select "submit" for quizzes and speech assignments and assign "view" for all other module content students should review.
Last week, I was able to assign "submit" as a requirement for discussions in my summer class, but today when I went to build out my modules for this fall semester "submit" was no longer an option for discussions. Only "view" or "contribute to page" are available. This is a problem as I need my discussions to show up on my student's to-do list. I also checked and there is no option on the discussion of "add to student to-do list".
I'm assuming there was an update and they took that feature away for some reason? I have already contacted support and they confirmed "submit" is no longer an option when assigning module requirements to a discussion.
Anyone have an idea of how to get this feature back? TIA!
