Is 'Canvas student eportfolios' the same thing / another name for Portfolium?
Solved! Go to Solution.
@PennyJW ...
Canvas ePortfolios and Portfolium are absolutely different things...and their interfaces are significantly different. Here are some Guides on ePortfolios:
Here are a bunch of Guides on Portfolium:
Canvas Student ePortfolios - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)
(I know the Guides here say ePortfolios as well, but this is the Portfolium interface.)
I hope this helps a bit.
@PennyJW Hi Penny!
Sorry about the confusion with the names of things (and I agree it is a bit confusing right now). Portfolium was recently rebranded/renamed and broken into two different features that now live under the Canvas family of products (that's a firehose of product branding mumbo jumbo, so don't worry, I'll try to explain better).
We have the feature within Canvas LMS that's called ePortfolios that's been around for a long time.
If you're looking for Portfolium guides, you can find them at the links @Chris_Hofer provided. And as I said, it's been renamed and separated into two distinct features, Canvas Student Pathways and Canvas Student ePortfolios.
You can find all of those guides here: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Student-Pathways-and/ct-p/portfolio although we're still working on renaming everything as this was a recent rename/rebrand.
I hope that helps clear things up. If not, I'm happy to try to help explain it further.

Thank you, Chris, but I think your reply gives a link that equates "Canvas student eportfolios" with Portfolium, doesn't it?
@PennyJW ...
Yes, it does. It is a bit confusing, I agree. When I clicked on the link that I gave you, even though the heading on the page says "Portfolium Network Table of Contents", if you look at the wording on the tab of your browser, it says, "Canvas Student ePortfolios - Instructure Community". The Guides listed on that page, though, are for Portfolium. I'll send a message to the Community Manager team to see if this warrants a change on that page...thanks!

Hi,
I am sorry. I am still confused about ePortfolios and Portfolium. These are two different features that are available to all Canvas users? What is the difference between the two? I do not see it in Account. I am the admin but can't see anywhere to enable it.
Any other information that would be helpful to get started with looking into using this/these features would be appreciated.
Debbie
Hello @olguin
If you don't see ePortfolios it may not be enabled in your account and/or may have been turned off. You can contact your CSM (Customer Success Manager) to enable ePortfolios at your institution.
Essentially "Portfolium" was renamed and split into two features. It is still under the umbrella of "Portfolium" but Canvas isn't really using that term and is instead using the two features instead -Canvas Student Pathways and Canvas Student ePortfolios. Have you checked the guides left by @nathanatkinson and @Chris_Hofer it should delve into it a bit.
It may also be best to request a demo of the Student Pathways - you can do so here: https://www.instructure.com/higher-education/products/canvas/canvas-student-pathways/request-demo
And there are official guides of course to ePortfolios but it may even be helpful to go on Youtube and search for videos. ePortfolios is a way for students to compile a lot of their work through different courses into one cohesive area. It's really like a portfolio for their work. And linking already submitted assignments and work through Canvas just makes it easier than going to a third party site and uploading everything from scratch. Ideally, this should be easier for users to showcase a lot of their work through Canvas in one area. This is a good example video of how it works:

Hopefully some of this helps. But I definitely recommend requesting the demo and then also watching and exploring some videos on Youtube of how they work, what they do, etc. I would also recommend speaking with your CSM about this and they can schedule a call and really delve into it with you once they've enabled it for your institution.
