The discussion redesign is heading in the right direction. I have commented on other features elsewhere, but one I thought worth mentioning was the readability of the replies, especially when you have nested replies enabled. It makes it difficult to see where posts begin and end because they aren't separated off with horizontal lines or boxes like original discussions.
I would like to see some sort of organization of the posts to make them easier to see and read.
Hello @erik_gustafson - I see the dates of the posts in your example image are from June 2023. Note the redesign changed since that time. May I suggest creating a new example? To illustrate, this is one I created seven weeks back.

And when the replies are expanded. I've labelled each reply level. Replies after level 3 are all at the same depth.
To help with a solution, your IT shop can apply CSS to add fill color so the indentations are more apparent. See here:

As @Jeff_F mentioned, I did put borders around the replies and gave the initial reply a different color than the thread replies. As @venitk says, the initial reply and first thread reply text have the same level of indentation.
Here's an example I dug up from Nov 2023 and Jan 2024 that also shows how threaded replies bounce around. But first, where do you think the last threaded reply will appear - at the top, bottom, or middle of the list of replies? All I can say is thank goodness for the notification dot showing unread replies; I'm still waiting for that dot to be easier to clear (like in Classic Discussions).
And larger font size (aka standard font size) on the threaded replies too,
