Hello I'm using the free teacher Canvas account for homeschooling, and I created most of my daughters courses correctly using "manual" as the sub account, but a few I accidentally didn't select "manual" for, and now they are showing up as something called NorAm, which I don't have access to administer.
My question is in parts:
1. Why does this seem to be interfering with her assignments showing up in list view to check off when she completes them?
2. Do I really need to go RECREATE the courses from scratch to fix this situation, or is there a faster fix that will allow me to reset them to "manually created" after the fact (she's only just started, and there might be one assignment completed in each)?
3. Is there a fast way to duplicate a course instead, but using a different sub account so I could fix it that way?
4. If she decides it's no big deal that she can't see the to dos, and we leave it, is there something else that will show up as a problem b/c the courses are in a sub account I can't access?
Please help!
Thank you!
Hi @DeborahFillman ...
I'm a little confused by your post. I logged into my own FFT account where I have a couple courses already created. I also tried creating a brand new course. In all instances, I am not able to select a sub-account via the "Settings" screen. It just says "Manually-Created Courses". Although that text is linked, if I click on it, I get a screen that says, "Access Denied - You do not have access to view this resource." Sub-accounts are usually handled by school/university/college Canvas administrators. However, since the FFT version of Canvas does not have an admin side that you can access, I don't see a need to try and configure that part of the course(s).
I am not sure if this helps at all...but wanted to give my $0.02...for what it's worth.
Hi Chris, thanks for your reply! Below I've attached what I see. I wonder if this is the problem: the first course I created is integrated with CK-12 for High School biology. Is it possible that this one integration gave me the access to their sub accounts as an option to choose?
In most courses I did choose manual, but for some reason, three of them show up as NorAm, and I must've either accidentally chosen it, OR that's the default when one doesn't pull something in the drop-down as it's already been identified as a sub account for another course? I have been very tired lately, and it's likely human error, my question is, can it be fixed now? She hasn't created any work in the courses yet, and all I want to do is change the sub account to manual so the assignments show up in her to-do list. I'm hoping not to have to manually recreate whole courses.
@DeborahFillman ...
Thanks for the extra info and your screenshot. When I log into my own FFT account and click on the "Start a New Course" button located on the right side of my Canvas Dashboard, I only see this:
As you can see, I do not have a drop-down list like you do. I am not sure why you would have "NorAm" (which I think just means "North America"...but I could be wrong.
You could try creating a brand new course shell in your FFT account (keep it at the "Manually-Created Courses" option). Then, you could try importing the content from the old course into the new course shell and see what happens.
When you follow these instructions, be sure you are logged into your new, empty course shell. You'll be selecting your old course as you complete these steps to import that content into the new course shell.
(Also, I have moved your question over to the FFT space here in the Community in hopes that someone from Product Marketing team might be able to chime in.)
Hope this might be of help to you!
