I have a free Canvas account for a course I teach. Students who have had me before can copy and paste the course URL into a new tab, enroll, and access the course without a problem.
Students without an account who copy and paste the course are taken to the usual Enroll window that requires new user info. They put in their email and user name, click " I am a new user," agree to acceptable user policy, but then the 'enroll' button remains grayed out and "unclickable."
1. The course is published.
2. I double-checked the settings and start/ end dates, and nothing is amiss there.
3. The shared URL works for my current students, so that is not the issue
I have tested this with different email accounts not previously connected to Canvas and have gotten the same result as my new students.
What is going on here?
What is the solution?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I don't know why it happens, but the solution that works for my students is:
1. Have the students copy the code from the end of the link URL.
2. Go to https://k12.instructure.com
3. Follow the link in the upper-right to create an account.
4. Paste the code and complete the form.
5. Presto, they're in!

Hi @MrLunetta ,
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
The above solution has worked for some but not for others. Two students got stuck in an email confirmation loop that won't let them access their accounts. These students had to create new email addresses to use. I got them in the course using the "+People" button. That worked.
I still think there is a glitch in the FFT part of the system, or they have changed something.
