Distributing Rubrics to subtasks

Often our students hand in assignments with a number of subtasks.

Ideally I would like to define Rubrics such that a number of the assessment criteria are applied to each subtask and a few of the assessment criteria are applied to the complete assignment overall.

However this doesn't seem possible, and having to manually create the repeated criteria is ... well, not my idea of an efficient system.

Wouldn't it be great if you could define a Rubric such that criteria (rows) can be marked "per subtask" with the option of providing the number of subtask, a title per subtask (name of subtask). Criteria not marked "per subtask" are overall assessment criteria.

I'm new to Canvas, so maybe I'm missing something? If not, do you know of usefull workarounds?

I'm honestly not familiar with what you are describing, but maybe it's just the wording. Could you possibly include a screenshot of what you'd like one of your rubrics to look like? I think if I saw what you're wanting it would help me conceorualize it better.

Ok, let me elaborate a little on the idea using below drawing :

Sometimes my assignments include 5 subtasks, sometimes 9 etc ... If I had to manually edit the rubrics to match the number of subtasks in each assignment then this would be a huge, manual, time consuming, task, repeating everytime I update my assignments.

But maybe there is a workaround?

To your original question, and most recent screenshot with the additions to Canvas, no, Canvas doesn't have anything like this and I can't think of a work around other than creating a master rubric with EVERYTHING and then for each assignment delete anything that isn't needed; so no recreating the rubric each time, just remove everything you don't want.

Example Process: Create an assignment, add the master rubric to the assignment, and edit the rubric's title/criteria (or whatever aspects of the rubric you want to modify). By doing this, you essentially leverage one rubric to create a new one. When you go back to your list of rubrics, you should see the new version of the rubric listed.
