Sub-Accounts for Manually Created Courses

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas

For more information, please read through the  Canvas Release Notes (2021-11-20).

With the new Canvas for Elementary, manually creating courses is not simple. If a teacher creates a course, even if they are enrolled in a course in a C4E sub-account, that course will automatically go into the Manually Created sub-account and not get the C4E UI.

It would be very helpful to either give the Teacher a choice of sub-accounts in reference to their currently enrolled courses OR automatically assign it to their currently enrolled course sub-accounts. The least favorable would be to create a course role that allows Teachers to change the sub-account on their courses.

The Create Course window has been updated with a subaccount option. This change allows manually created courses to be placed in a subaccount other than the Manually-Created Courses subaccount.

For more information, please read through the  Canvas Release Notes (2021-11-20).

Will there be any setting to turn off this option?   We specifically WANT instructors' manually-created sandbox courses to go into their own special sub-account so that we can control some of the settings on them, and keep the stats and analytics for our actual SIS-generated courses separate from the sandbox/demo/test courses.

@mzimmerman I am in absolute agreement. This will introduce significant chaos in our use of sub-accounts. This should be behind a feature flag for admins to disable. Another idea would be to place a checkbox next to each entry on the sub-account list for admins. Checking the box could indicate a sub-account as needing to be hidden from the drop-down menu available to users, etc.

@mzimmerman and @stephensda , if you haven't yet, would you add your comments to the Release Q&A for this feature?
