Impact is an amazing tool to empower migration to Canvas. But did you know that Impact can also be your year-round ticket to successfully leveraging Canvas?
Campaigns, messages, and walkthroughs inform users about Canvas features and tools, along with more detailed information on the best way to utilize them. Insights and monitors help you track implementation and adoption. Check out how to elevate your Canvas experience with Impact throughout the academic calendar!
The Academic Year
Between incoming students and fresh courses, a new academic year brings an exciting time! New and experienced teachers are building out their ideas into assignments, quizzes, and pages to help students learn and grow. Student’s minds are ready to begin learning. During all stages of the year, the presence of diverse communication and support systems is important for both students and instructors. Impact creates multiple layers of communication and learning to help users progress from beginners to experts in all things Canvas!
Coursework is more efficient when instructors are using Canvas features and tools to their full potential. This also allows students to have a better learning environment when they understand how to use the tools and features to complete their assignments.
Impact campaigns also help relieve some of the cognitive load. For example, instead of having to search the Community site for guides on how to create a discussion, the Walkthrough: Create a discussion can already be scheduled to run and walk them through the process.
Impact Content Team
Impact has a team of Content Specialists, dedicated to developing Out-Of-The-Box (OOTB) campaigns. These campaigns are designed based on pedagogically sound principles, ensuring the quality of messages and walkthroughs delivered to your institute. Both messages and walkthrough steps are designed to be compact and insightful in order to simplify knowledge transmission.
Our campaigns are data-driven, offering assistance on topics currently trending on Canvas Community, as well as those emerging from user requests via our Content Request Form. We also seek to deliver campaigns following current educational trends. Two examples campaigns center around Course Gamification and Problem-Based Learning in Canvas.
OOTB Campaigns
Our OOTB campaigns cover topics addressed throughout the entire academic year. Institutes can start with the ‘Back to School with Canvas’ or ‘Getting Started with Canvas’ campaigns for instructors and students. These campaigns are great introductions to Canvas, but can also be used as refreshers for returning users. A variety of OOTB campaigns can be used throughout the academic year to follow the natural progression of coursework.
The instructor and student campaigns can mirror each other or provide information to just one user group. The diagram on the left shows various OOTB campaigns and walkthroughs for instructors. The diagram on the right shows the equivalent for students. (The campaigns in the images have been created and can be previewed on the Impact Campaign Template Previews page).
OOTB Campaigns are created for global use, but can be tailored to your specific needs once added to your dashboard. They not only serve as ready-made content but also offer a source of inspiration. Look through the template previews as a starting point and use them as a springboard to design your own campaigns that will align with the institute’s brand.
Engagement and Adoption
Walkthroughs function as interactive guides, presenting information in a step-by-step format with simplified inline messages. The advantage of Walkthroughs lies in their ability to guide users through the process without the need to switch between tabs to access guides and complete each step, thus offering an engaging, hands-on learning experience. Campaigns with messages that appear on Canvas pages as the user navigates through them, regardless of the order they use. Linking the Community guides to the campaigns can also aid users who prefer to learn in this manner. For those already well-informed, opting out is a simple process–users can close the steps at any point and end the campaign. A comparison of the two can be seen in the following video and image.
As users become more proficient with Canvas tools and features, they can explore more advanced functionalities. As Canvas is constantly evolving, staying on top of those changes through monthly release note campaigns ensures the institute remains up-to-date. Higher adoption rates, deeper understanding of Canvas, and continuous training lead to a revolving ROI every year.
Impact allows you to monitor the engagement and adoption of Canvas tools and features through the campaign details and the Insights page. This data serves multiple purposes; it guides decision-making when creating or importing campaigns and offers insights into underutilized Canvas tools, leading to the creation of awareness campaigns. This also creates a cycle throughout the year: raise awareness of the tools and features to showcase their utility, empower users with how-tos, analyze the data, and develop more granular campaign messages and walkthroughs to emphasize advanced features.
Campaign Management
Impact offers a variety of ways to manage content and campaigns. You have the flexibility to schedule campaigns with start and end times, allowing you to strategize when they will have the highest level of impact on users. Suites of campaigns can be used throughout the academic year to promote deeper learning. You can leverage Impact by creating a change management plan, thus boosting tool adoption across Canvas.
